Normal Days

13x10 illustrations

On March 16, 2021 in the metropolitan area of Atlanta, eight people were killed at Asian spas, six of whom were Asian women, and four were Korean American women. All the losses were very hurtful to our communities, but seeing those Korean American victims, I related intimately with their stories. These illustrations imagine what their normal, daily lives might have looked like if they were not killed by anti-Asian hate. One of the women had two sons. One liked watching K-drama. Another would continue her masseuse work at the place she served for years. One liked cooking. The red flowers uncomfortably remind us that bullets cut short these women's colorful lives.
